Hats Off to Dr. Seuss!

Every year, the Francis Howell School District (FHSD) celebrates the National Education Association’s (NEA) Read Across America Week, in honor of Theodor “Dr. Seuss” Geisel’s birthday on March 2. Every day during the week, students had a chance to celebrate in a different and creative way! One of the student favorites during the week was “Hats Off to Reading Day,” when students and staff wore their goofiest hats. From bedazzled, bright baseball caps to vibrant, animal-shaped hats, students and staff had a great time showing off their goofiest headwear, in honor of Dr. Seuss!
Becky-David Students Celebrate 100 Days of School

Elementary students around Francis Howell School District are 100 days smarter as they celebrated reaching the 100th day of the 2016-17 school year this week. They marked the special day with a variety of activities that emphasized the number 100.
FHSD Schools Celebrate National Red Ribbon Week

The Francis Howell School District (FHSD) will be dipped in red the week of Oct. 24-28, as schools across the District and the nation celebrate Red Ribbon Week, an event dedicated to raising awareness for alcohol, tobacco, drugs and violence prevention. Many FHSD schools will educate students on drug prevention with special events, activities and fun-themed spirit days.
Becky-David Elementary Abilities Awareness Week

For a decade, Becky-David Elementary has been participating in and celebrating the “rainbow of abilities” present within its school community, as well as the Francis Howell School District (FHSD) Community, during their Abilities Awareness Week. Staff and students put on several events and celebrations, and invited guests to speak about the abilities they had to overcome. It’s a celebration of life as most of us don’t know it. And with a little bit of added awareness, the week of activities gives attendees a better understanding of disabilities, and how we can help.
New FHSD Safety Measures Include Unannounced Intruder Drills

Student safety is always a top priority of the Francis Howell School District (FHSD). The District annually conducts a variety of safety drills including fire, tornado, earthquake and intruder drills. Participation in these safety drills is where most students get directly involved in their own safety. New this year, FHSD will conduct one unannounced intruder drill at each of our schools.
FHSD Recognized for Bus Safety

The buses that safely transport students of the Francis Howell School District (FHSD) every day will display a special new sticker starting in August, after earning the “Total Fleet Excellence” distinction for 2016. The stickers indicate excellence in the overall maintenance and reliability of the District’s bus fleet. The distinction is determined by the Missouri State Highway Patrol based on the results of the annual school bus inspection, a program conducted by the Patrol’s Motor Vehicle Inspection Division.

International Cochlear Implant Awareness Day at Becky-David Elementary

The Francis Howell School District (FHSD) wants all kids to have the same chance to succeed, and seeks to provide the help necessary for all kids to have that chance. Some kids have to work a little harder, especially kids who are hard of hearing. On International Cochlear Implant Awareness Day, Becky-David Elementary students and teachers spread the word about what it takes for these students to have those same opportunities.

Becky-David Raises Funds for Honor Flight

Every November, students in the Francis Howell School District (FHSD) seek to honor those who sacrifice so much in serving in our country’s military. Whether it be a Veterans Day celebration, or a fundraiser to benefit veterans, FHSD students strive to make sure veterans know just how appreciated they are. Students from Becky-David Elementary performed a fundraiser to support Honor Flight, a charitable organization that send veterans to visit war memorials in Washington D.C.
Give, and You’ll Receive – Becky-David students give back to AAW presenter

Throughout the Francis Howell School District (FHSD) during the month of October, schools take part in Abilities Awareness Week (AAW) by hosting assemblies and special activities. They bring in guest speakers who generously give up their time to help others understand and learn more about the abilities of people with disabilities. One FHSD school, Becky-David Elementary, decided to give something back to one of the presenters on Jan. 22. Madelyn Hubbs spoke at their school last October, and her message was so powerful that the students at Becky-David decided to donate nearly an hundred stuffed animals to give to kids at the children’s hospital Madelyn represents.
